Mynd Works, Inc.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you test for dyslexia, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorders, or other learning disabilities?
No, Mynd Works does not offer neuropsychological, psycho-educational or psychological evaluations. Our occupational therapist can test for motor delays, sensory processing disorders and other functional impairments. Our audiologist can test for auditory processing disorders and hearing impairments. It is important to keep in mind that auditory processing disorders and sensory processing disorders may be the real deficit, rather than AD/HD, or contributing factors to these other diagnoses.

At what age can my child be evaluated and start treatment?
There really is no age limit, and the sooner a child can be helped, the better. Certain auditory processing evaluations are best suited for children ages 5 and up, however. Certain treatments, such as Interactive Metronome, do have a minimum age requirement.

How long do I have to wait for an evaluation?
There is currently no waiting list for evaluation or treatment. We schedule evaluations in a timely manner to get your child started as soon as possible on the path to success.

Do you take insurance?
Mynd Works is considered an out-of-network provider. We submit claims for our families but accept payment at the time of service. We encourage families to check with the specifics of their individual plans, particularly regarding auditory processing evaluations, occupational therapy evaluations, and occupational therapy treatment.

What is the difference between Dynamic Listening System and Tomatis?
Dr. Ron Minson, who studied with Dr. Tomatis, developed Dynamic Listening System (DLS). DLS has all of the components of Tomatis along with some updates and improvements. Tomatis and DLS have the following in common.

  • Receptive and expressive phases; during the expressive phase the individual works with a microphone to develop his/her voice.
  • Headphones with bone conduction
  • Primarily uses the music of Mozart as well as some Gregorian chant and the mother's voice.
  • Requires specialized equipment and must be carried out in the clinic
  • Gating technology

The improved technology of DLS has allowed for shorter sessions (80 minutes rather than 120 minutes), with some clients needing only 23 sessions rather than 30 sessions. DLS also has full gating. Rather than coming in every day, most clients come in three times a week, which is easier on everyone's time and energy.

What is the cost for your services?
Each program is individualized so costs will vary.

Will "non-modified"/regular music help?
There is much to be said for how music can enrich our daily lives and enhance performance. However, non-modified music will not produce the results that modified music produces.
