Dynamic Listening Systems (DLS) uses music, primarily Mozart,
and modifies the sound according to the precepts of Dr. Tomatis -
adding, subtracting and enhancing selected frequencies while modulating
the music between high and low channels. Sound is a nutrient and the
ear energizes our brain and stimulates the vestibular system. It can
have a positive influence on speech and language, learning, motor
skills, social skills, energy, attention, creativity and emotional
health. Listening Tests are administered prior to starting the program,
during the program, and at the end of the program. Individuals listen
to music through high-quality headphones with bone conduction. A typical
program involves 23-30 sessions at 1hour and 20 minutes each and includes
both receptive and active/expressive phases (microphone work). Each
program is individualized and children participate in a variety of
activities while listening, such as movement experiences, play, arts
and crafts, and other activities. DLS is based on the belief that
the brain can change through experience and that, with sufficient
stimulation, changes become permanent. DLS works to bring the individual
to an optimal level of listening.

Therapeutic Listening (developed by Sheila Frick, OTR) uses
sound in combination with sensory integrative treatment techniques.
Individual listening programs using electronically altered CD's are
created to address each child's specific needs. The CD's vary in musical
style, complexity and levels of filtering. A home program is carried
out 5-7 days per week, with two 30-minute listening sessions per day
using high-quality headphones and a personal CD player. A typical
initial listening program is carried out for 12 weeks.
